Open Space, CCDS and Hivos are proud to bring you Kiski Kahani the book. The story of the Ramayana has been told and retold many times over the centuries. Kiski Kahani: the Ramayana Project was an 18 month long multidisciplinary venture to explore the pluralism of the Ramayana in the Indian subcontinent. The project culminated in a book Kiski Kahani: An anthology of personal journeys with the Ramayana.
Do join us on 11th June at 5:30pm for readings from the books by eminent poet, writer and translator Priya Sarukkai Chabria, writer Waylon D’mello and Kiski Kahani project coordinator and writer Imran Ali Khan.
The event will also include a talk from Aart Wani a film scholar and associate professor at Symbiosis college of Arts and Commerce, Pune. She is one of the founding co-editors of the peer-reviewed journal Studies in South Asian Film and Media. She recently submitted her dissertation for a PhD in Cinema studies, in the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU, New Delhi. Her talk will cover how myth becomes part of film and how the Indian-ness of India is sourced from its mythology. She will explore both films based on mythology as well as those that make a metaphorical use of the myth to understand the contemporary world.
We welcome everyone, especially all participants in the project to come and share their personal journeys with the Ramayana. How has the Ramayana crept into your life, what stories do you most remember, who is the character you most identify with and why? We are excited to discuss all this and more.
The reading will be followed by a showcase of some of the art works that resulted from this project and retellings of some of the experiences participants in this project. There will also be copies of the book on display!
